Course Description

Introduction: Types of electrical machines, Induced EMF, Torque, Hysteresis, Losses. Transformers: Assembly, Operation, Equivalent circuit, Losses, Tests, Voltage regulation, Efficiency. Auto-transformers, Three Phase transformers. Polarity. Parallel operation. Direct current electrical machines: Assembly, Windings, Excitation, Armature reactance, Poles, Commutation, Brushes. Generator: Equivalent circuit, Separate, parallel, series and compound excitation, Output characteristics, Voltage regulation, Parallel operation, Dynamic behavior. Motor: Equivalent circuit, Separate, parallel, series and compound excitation, Output characteristics, Starting methods, Speed control, Dynamic behavior.
