SHORT CV

Prof. Nick Papanikolaou (SM, IEEE, 2010) received the Dipl. Eng. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Patras, Patras, Greece, in 1998 and 2002, respectively. Prior to his Academic Career, he worked in the Hellenic Transmission System Operator, as well as in the Electric Transportation Company of Athens. On 2013 he joined the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH), Xanthi, Greece, where he is currently a Professor at the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department (ECE-DUTH) in the field of Power Electronics and their applications to renewable energy, distributed generation, electric transportations, and power quality improvement. He has led several research projects in his field, in close cooperation with the Hellenic Industry as well as with EU & China Research Institutions and Companies. He is the founder of PEL@DUTH research group at DUTH, which is currently one of the top power electronics research groups in South East Europe. In addition, he is an evaluator of various EU-funded projects, as well as a Visiting Professor and a member of several PhD committees in various Universities abroad.

Prof. Papanikolaou is an Editorial and Guest Editorial Board member of various scientific journals in his field (published by Elsevier, Springer, CPSS and MDPI). He is a Senior Member, IEEE, and he is included in the Stanford list of top 2% scientists (Electrical & Electronic Engineering field). He has published more than 120 research papers in his field and guided 5 PhD theses.

Prof. Papanikolaou was a Member of the IEEE European Public Policy Group Working Group on Energy (2024). He also served as the Vice President and the Director of the MSc & PhD Programs of the ECE-DUTH department.
