Graduated from the department of Computer Engineering & Informatics, University of Patras, Greece, in September 1996. Ph.D in Informatics (Information Retrieval & Information Systems group) from the Computing Science Department, University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands, on June 21st, 2001. Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Information and Computing Sciences, Center for Geometry, Imaging and Virtual Environments, Utrecht University, the Netherlands, 2003-2005. Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Media Studies, Archives and Information Studies group, University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 2006-2009. Faculty member at the department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Engineering of Democritus University of Thrace, Greece; elected Lecturer in June 2007, hired in November 2009, promoted to Assistant Professor in June 2013, tenured in February 2018, promoted to Associate Professor in July 2019. As of January 2020, I have circa 25 years of experience in Information Retrieval research and related areas, including teaching related courses, and around 85 publications in the field (with around 1600 citations and h-index 20). I have given numerous talks during conferences, at universities, and in the industry.
