What is a plasma – Characteristic parameters of plasmas. Debye Length – Debye shielding. Plasma frequency. Charged particle motion in Electromagnetic (E/M) fields of various topologies. Adiabatic invariants. Plasma conductivity. Magnetized plasma and plasma diamagnetism. E/M wave propagation in cold and hot magnetized plasma. Electrostatic waves. Kinetic description of plasma. The Vlasov equation. Landau damping. Examples of naturally occuring and artificial plasmas. Plasma applications. Plasma measurement devices. |
