Course Description

Hardware and Software, Arithmetic Systems, Structure, Organisation and Operation of Computers, Central Processing Unit, Memory System, Random Access Memory, Memory Decoding, Error Correction Codes, Information Structure in the Computer. Commands, Command types in Assembly. Addressing methods in RAM, Operand types and sizes, Computer categorization according to their command set, Command Set encoding, Control Unit, Algorithmic State Machines, ASM diagrams, Timing, Data processing subsystem implementation, Control Unit Implementation, Memory technology, Programmable Logic Arrays PLA and PAL, Lab exercises using the VHDL language for hardware description and design.
