Course Description

Introduction – The construction site and the systems of an engineer as dynamic social-technical systems –  Safety as an emerging property of social-technical systems. Current legislation for safety and hygiene in work and technical projects. Accident models – linear, epidemiological, systemic. Advantages and disadvantages. A-posteriori prejudice. Human factors in safety. Safety Culture. Organisational Theories (NAT, HRO). Traditional risk analysis techniques FTA, ETA. Examples. Traditional risk analysis techniques FMEA, HAZOP, HACCP. Examples. Introduction to the Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) and the accidents model Systems Theoretic Accident Model and Processes (STAMP). Risk analysis technique STPA.  Presentation of the method for the detection of early risk warning signs EWaSAP. Examples of STPA and EWaSAP using manual calculations. Examples of STPA and EWaSAP  using the XSTAMPP software. Accidents investigation with the CAST method.
