
What is the Counseling & Accessibility Unit (CAU) ?
The Counseling & Accessibility Unit of DUTH started operation in 2018. It addresses students with psycho-social difficulties, specialties and handicaps and its mission is to contribute to the enhancement of the learning procedure, academic success, socialization for these students.
It consists of two departments:
- The Counseling and Psychosocial Support Department and
- the Accessibility Department
Who can have access to the Unit ?
Access to the unit is permitted to all DUTH student (undergraduate and postgraduate). The provided services are free of charge.
What are the offered services of the Unit?
Counseling and Psychosocial Support Department
- Personal and group counselling for students who are facing difficulties in their:
- Studies (Learning difficulties, difficulties in studying and understanding, exam stress)
- Academic Life (difficulties in adapting to the educational environment, difficulties in organizing and managing time, negative attitude towards the subject of study)
- Social Life (difficulties in friendly and family relationships, isolation, low self-esteem, difficulties in acceptance and integration into the social environment)
- Other problems (psychosomatic disorders, emotional problems, addictions)
- Organization of seminars and workshops with experiential and interactive character
- Implementation of mental health prevention and awareness actions
- Encourage and participate in socialization activities and volunteer initiatives
- Collaboration with other community authorities
Accessibility Department
- Electronic accessibility
- Convert books into a more accessible format
- Use accessibility support technologies in the educational environment of the university
- Creation of increased accessibility workstations for the library and the internet
- Accessibility in DUTH buildings
- Conduct accessibility studies for DUTH buildings
- Assess plans to improve the accessibility in DUTH buildings
Who operates the Unit ?
The unit is scientifically supervised by Faculty members of DUTH that are specialised close to the subject and mission of the Unit and is operated :
a) The Counseling and Psychosocial Support department by a Psychiatrist, Psychologists and Social Service workers.
b) The accessibility department by Electrical and Computer Engineers.
