Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.)

Apart from the educational process, the significant activity of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is ongoing research and development.

Research is normally done at the laboratories of the Department in research programs.

These programs are funded through current state subsidies, such as the Regular Budget, public investment, and the contribution made by the Engineers and Public Works Contractors' Pension Fund (TSMEDE).

It is also funded by extra-academic institutions that financially support research and development in various ways , such as the General Secretariat for Research and Technology, Industry, the European Union and others.


The ECE Department has been very active in research ever since it was established, the,result of which is a large number of publications in international journals and conference proceedings.  Moreover, collaborating with other Universities and Research centers, both in Greece and abroad,  as well as with the industry, has resulted in establishing the Department as a research activity center of international recognition. At the same time, a large number of young scientists’ doctoral theses have been successfully completed.

The Graduate Studies Program (PSP) started operating in 1994-95 granting a Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD).
